The Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai, the tallest building in the world, was lit up in the colors of Kenya’s national flag on Thursday, December 12, to mark the day the country became an autonomous state in 1963.

Advertising atop Burj Khalifa comes with a pretty hefty price tag.
According to MullenLowe MENA, the marketing agency that handles promotions for the building, prices of a single three-minute display on its top floor LED screen start at a whopping $68,073 (about Ksh. 7 million).
Prices differ depending on what time the ads are displayed and on whether they are put on during weekdays vs. weekends.
If a promotion is to be displayed between 8 and 10 p.m. on weekends, the cost rises to $95,285 (about Ksh. 10 million).
The cost goes further up to $272, 245 (about Ksh. 27) on any night between 7 and midnight for five three-minute displays.
These numbers reveal that Burj Khalifa’s ad prices are among the highest in the world; which left Kenyans wondering who paid for it.
It was, however, later confirmed that neither Kenya nor any other countries that have had their flag featured on the building pay anything as it’s part of what the Burj Khalifa management does for “all nations around the globe”.
