A Tanzanian Regional Police Commander shocked netizens on Friday morning after he declared the government’s plans to arrest those “suspected of planning to commit suicide.
While speaking to press, Barnabas Mwakalukwa said the drastic measure is as a result of two back-to-back suicide related deaths in his Tabora jurisdiction.
Adding that law enforcement officers will thoroughly patrol the streets and those found contemplating bringing their lives to an end will be immediately apprehended and charged in court.
The declaration was immediately met by negative reactions, with many social media users rightly viewing it as a completely bizarre and inappropriate method of addressing the mental health problem currently facing the region.
