Raila Odinga with Anyang Nyon’go
Raila Odinga’s close friend took to a local TV station to deliver news hinting that he won’t be a part of another run for the top seat.
Odinga, who has a chameleon-like approach in politics has always had an eye on the State House job.
Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyon’go said that the ODM party leader’s silence on whether he would try for the fifth time for the presidency is understandable . He went on to say that there was no point in him vying yet he won’t be announced a winner even after winning.
“One of the reasons why Raila is not talking about the presidency is because he has lost elections three times. So what is the point of going to elections even if you get the vote, you will not be declared the winner,” Nyon’go said.
The Kisumu County governor also threw his support on the amendment of the constitution to allow for a parliamentary system arguing that under a parliamentary system, the nation can be assured of democratic presidential elections.
“We have seen that the presidential elections doesn’t bring democratic elections, let us do something else. Let’s wait the BBI to come out with a report for us to discuss it,” he added.
The 2022 presidential elections are the last chance for Raila to vie for presidency and this announcement will end the latest of several efforts he has made to pursue the presidency, stretching back a dozen years, and likely marks a final abandonment of his longstanding ambition to capture the state house .
