Willy Paul was the most streamed artiste in Kenya last year. The artiste had some break-out hits in 2019 including “Halleluyia” featuring Tanzania’s Nandy and “Mmmh” with Rayvanny.
Both songs have garnered close to 22 million views on Youtube to date.
A Nairobi talboid recently interviewed the singer on the year that was and his plans for 2020.
He revealed that last year had not gone exactly as he had planned but he is ready to surprise people with greater and better in the coming months.
“2019 was a good year. My target for 2019 was to remain at number one in Kenya, which I did and to do international collaborations which I was able to do.”
He added that he wants to keep up the same spirit that he has had in the last few years.
“2020 isn’t going to be any different lakini tutaenda a notch higher. The project I am releasing tomorrow is going to be the talk of the town. I will not state the name of the song but it will be good.”
Eyebrows have recently been raised after it became apparent that the “gospel” artist was openly promoting a liquor brand on his social media pages.
Asked if he is a brand ambassador for the liquor brand, Willy Paul responded in the affirmative; noting that it was just a business to him.
“Does this mean that you have crossed over from being a gospel musician to being a secular artiste?” poised the interviewer, “I am just an artiste, nothing more and nothing less,” answered Willy Paul.
