US rapper T.I’s daughter Deyjah Harris
US Rapper TI came under fire after he made some very controversial remarks about his 18-year-old daughter’s virginity on a new podcast.
The Grammy-winning musician told a podcast how he escorts Deyjah Harris to the doctor’s office after each birthday to “check her hymen”.
“Usually like the day after the [birthday] party, she’s enjoying her gifts, I put a sticky note on the door: ‘Gyno. Tomorrow. 9:30’,” he told the presenters.
Weighing in on the controversial statements, Nigerian actress Halima Abubakar admitted that her father -while growing up- used to take her to different doctors regularly to confirm whether she was still a virgin.
Abubakar, however, noted that while she hated the practice deemed by some as traumatic, humiliating and barbaric, there was nothing wrong with parents subjecting their daughters to virginity tests.
“I don’t see anything wrong in checking if your daughter is still a virgin. I remember my dad taking me to see different doctors, just to be sure. He stopped after the 3times. I hated him then a bit. But he is just a father trying to protect his stubborn daughter,” she wrote.

The episode of the Ladies Like Us podcast was released on Tuesday, but appeared to have been removed on Wednesday afternoon after it went viral on social media.
The practice of “virginity testing” was condemned by the World Health Organization, U.N. Human Rights and U.N. Women in 2018 when the organizations issued a statement demanding the elimination of the practice. Virginity testing also referred to as hymen, “two-finger” or per vaginal examination, “is an inspection of female genitalia designed to determine whether a woman or girl has had vaginal intercourse,” according to the WHO.
