A police officer and a civilian were on Monday night nabbed by locals just moments after they had injured a businessman before stealing Ksh28,000 and a smartphone from him.
In a police report, the businessman identified as Edwin Saitoti Lengumi who runs a business at Gem Trading Centre in Narok County, was attacked by three men including the officer identified as Vincent Oduor attached to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Transmara who cut his head using a machete.
Saitoti had just closed his business and boarded a motorbike which was being ridden by Julius Shumari alias Al Shabaab.
As the duo headed home, three people emerged from bushes along the roadside and started attacking him.
The rider, who was also arrested by police managed to escape into the bushes leaving behind the victim who was brutally beaten.
“When he was just one kilometre from his home, three men emerged from the nearby bushes and blocked the motorbike. The cyclist stopped and abandoned him and his motorcycle and disappeared into the darkness,” the report read in part.
The victim tried to run but was overpowered and eventually had no option but to surrender to the gang his mobile phone valued at Ksh8,000 and the cash he had.
He then raised alarm prompting members of the public to dash to his rescue. The locals managed to arrest two suspects amongst them the rider of the motorcycle.
Police officers have launched a manhunt for two suspects who escaped from the scene of the crime.
The victim was then rushed to Kehancha Hospital where he was treated and later discharged with doctors confirming that he was in a stable condition.
The two suspects are currently held at Gem Police Post where they are assisting the police with investigations.
The motorbike was also taken to the station where it is being held as the investigations go on.
