A section of politicians walked out of a church function on Sunday, September 12, 2021, after the Archbishop of Anglican Church of Kenya Jackson Ole Sapit banned political utterances in the Anglican pulpit.
Addressing the congregation during the consecration of Rev. Rose Okeno as the Bishop of the Butere Diocese, Sapit stated that no politician would be allowed to address the congregation henceforth.
“From today onwards, I have banned politicians from speaking inside the Anglican Church. Even if you (the media) put your cameras there, they will not speak,” Sapit declared.
Following the announcement, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, FORD Kenya’s Moses Wetangula, and allied MPs began to walk out as the function progressed.
In the video capturing the mass walkout by the leaders, Wetangula and Mudavadi are seen waving at the crowds.
Other leaders who were present in the consecration event included; ODM leader Raila Odinga, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, COTU boss Francis Atwoli, and Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa among others.
