United Democratic Alliance (UDA) chairman Johnson Muthama has denounced existence of a formal coalition agreement between his party, Amani National Congress (ANC) and FORD-Kenya.
“There is no agreement whatsoever that has been signed between the three political parties. There is no agreement that has been arrived between the three political parties. What is there is we are friends,” Muthama said.
Muthama said this while speaking during a press briefing on Monday where he also stated that Deputy President William Ruto, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula-led parties merely exist as friends.
Muthama claimed a common goal namely the need to work together to unite Kenya brought together the three parties.
He further said at the moment they are just friends and they will deal with coalition terms when the appropriate time comes. Meanwhile, they would continue associating.
“We’ll continue speaking, we’ll continue talking, we’ll continue doing things together, but when the time of agreeing on the coalition terms comes then that issue will be dealt with at that particular time,” Muthama said.
He assured their supporters that the parties are yet to sign any coalition agreements and they would notify the supporters of the same should it happen.
“So our supporters wherever you are, rest assured that your party is intact. Your party is not in coalition agreement. Your party has not yet signed any coalition agreement. And if that will be done, later on, you’ll be informed on what are the terms of the agreement that will be signed,” the UDA chairman said.
Muthama said Ruto and Mudavadi are working as friends and they both are presidential candidates for their respective parties.
“As far as we are concerned, DP Ruto is the UDA presidential candidate, and Musalia Mudavadi is the presidential candidate of ANC. In other words, we are independent but talking as friends,” Muthama said.
