Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, on Wednesday, announced that he had sought help over the ongoing Likoni tragedy rescue operation.
Joho, via micro blogging site Twitter tweeted that he had hired a South African firm to help in the rescue operations to recover the bodies still submerged under water.
I have sent for experts from South Africa to join efforts with multi agency teams that are working round the clock to retrieve the bodies. #LikoniFerry #LikoniFerryTragedy pic.twitter.com/O5ZaeeQ6RE

He condoled with the family of the deceased and asked them to be patient during the retrieval process due to the complexity of the mission. He stated that the ferry authorities needed to find new ways of securing the vehicles on board the vessels in order to prevent future disasters.
We are vividly urging ferry authorities to enhance safety measures and consider mounting movable barriers to secure cars that may develop mechanical problems and pedestrians. This is not the first time this is happening. My condolences go out to the family. #LikoniFerryTragedy pic.twitter.com/BnqdwwqgZb

It is claimed that Joho offered 2 million to the South African firm to retrieve the bodies but this contradicts reports from his Communications director who said that the government instead hired thee firm .
This has got many Kenyans asking what is the role of Kenya Navy as they have failed to retrieve the bodies .
