Churchill Show Comedian Jasper Muthomi, popularly known as Mc Jessy, has announced that he has officially joined the 2022 parliamentary race.
In a statement he shared on Monday, November 8, the comedian indicated that he would contest to become the next South Imenti MP.
The announcement comes days after he received an endorsement from the constituency’s elders on Saturday, November 6.
“This weekend I was grateful and humbled by the elders that raised me and who are from my home constituency of South Imenti when they honored and bestowed on me the blessings & responsibilities to lead South Imenti Constituency as the Member Of Parliament,” he stated.
Accompanying the message, Mc Jessy shared two photos of him and the elders while holding a spear and a shield.
For many Kenyan communities, the spear and a leaf-shaped shield often symbolise leadership, unity and the defence of community interests.
The shield often possesses a grip carved from the solid and is decorated in zigzag traditional colours.
It is not yet clear which party the comedian will use to launch his manifesto for the community. The source of his funding is also not yet known.
Jessy is seeking to succeed the incumbent Kathuri Murungi who is serving his second term since he got elected to the position in 2013.
Previously, the outspoken comedian has narrated his struggle from humble beginnings as a shamba boy in an MP’s home to charging a Ksh200,000 fee.
At the time, he noted that he had moved to Nairobi to begin life after finishing his KCSE.
After his struggles living in Kawangware, he ran into a friend who was an MP’s son.
He later got employed by the unnamed lawmaker as a farmhand.
