Narc-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua has brushed off reports that she is angling to be a running mate for one of the presidential candidates in the 2022 general election.
Speaking on Monday during an interview on Radio Citizen, Martha noted that she is not one to sit aside and wait for appointments, adding that she believes in going to the electorate and seeking a mandate.
“Kiti cha Deputy sio kiti ambacho unaweza chaguliwa ni nafasi ambayo unaweza pata au ukose kulingana na uamuzi wa mwenzako, ukitaka kutumikia wakenya lazima usimame wananchi wakuchague,” she said.
Martha further noted that she is keen on serving Kirinyaga people, adding that she will take another shot at the gubernatorial seat after being unsuccessful in 2017.
“Niliwania ugavana 2017, nikapata na nikapokonywa na nasema wazi naweza taka kuwania urais katika siku za usoni lakini kwa sasa nataka kutumikia wakazi wa Kirinyaga,” she added.
Recently, Gatundu South MP Moses Kurua endorsed Karua for the position of Deputy President come 2022, arguing that she has what it takes to serve in that position.
“I want to endorse Martha Karua for the position of Deputy President, she has integrity, she has the stamina, she has the record, she has a clear sterling record as a crusader for both multipartism and human rights, for the defense of the Constitution…,” he said in part.
Karua is currently the Spokesperson of the Mt Kenya Unity Forum (MKUF) that brings together; Narc-Kenya, Chama Cha Kazi and Mwangi Kiunjuri’s The Service Party (TSP).
MKUF is yet to announce who they will support as their presidential candidate in the 2022 general election.
The group has a Conference scheduled to be held at the Jumuia Conference Centre Limuru on Saturday, 22nd January 2022 where they are expected to announce the way forward in regards to the presidential race.
