The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cleared footballer McDonald Mariga to vie for the Kibra parliamentary seat in the forthcoming by-elections set for November 7th 2019.
Mariga’s candidature was disqualified a week ago by the commission on grounds that his name was missing from the voter’s register. He however petitioned the commission’s decision citing that he was a duly registered voter.
IEBC’s Disputes Resolution Tribunal delivered a ruling on Monday stating that Mariga is a duly registered voter.
“It is our finding that the complainant was duly registered as a voter,” said IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati during the ruling.

Mariga will battle out with ODM’s Imran Okoth and ANC’s Eliud Owalo for the top seat.
