Gospel minister Solomon Mkubwa is one of the most successful and humble musicians Kenya has ever had. He is renowned for hit songs such as Mfalme wa amani, Mungu mwenye nguvu, Futa machozi, Mkono wa bwana and Mtakatifu.
He is one musician who has conquered several hurdles to become one of the most sought after gospel musicians in Kenya.
His childhood was not as easy as most people think. He lost his left arm at the tender age of 12 after being bewitched by one of his father’s mpango wa kando.
He shared his emotional story during a media interview at Radio Jambo.
“My dad had an illicit affair with a side chick who he abandoned later after impregnating her. The side chick decided to revenge by bewitching me. Unfortunately, she cursed a spell on me which affected my left hand. We decided to seek the intervention of a witch doctor but that didn’t help. It was too late as the hand was swollen and rotten. There was no option left other than cutting it off,” revealed Solomon Mkubwa.
The singer further revealed that his condition became worse after his father turned into alcoholism and abandoned him. He had to seek God’s intervention after every other means failed.
Fortunately, his father too decided to turn back to God and is currently one of his greatest supporters in the gospel ministry.
