If not cautious, personal documents like your national identity card, driver’s license or any other legal document which bears your details, can be used against you by the ever-increasing fraudsters.
This, as a Twitter user (@bennytothedj) narrated on Sunday night, was the same case when an unsuspecting gentleman was baited into a trickster’s trap after naively giving out all his trust.
By the time reality sunk in, he was already receiving polite “massages” from kind officers at the CID Headquarters in Nairobi where he had been taken for questioning.
He couldn’t believe that just five days earlier, he had spent the day with his “friend” whom he had now been informed was a wanted man for taking off with high value property.
“Kuna msee I met pale jela through a friend. Ukiskia how he was jailed for 3 years utajua life can change in seconds.
Man wakes up kama kawaida and receives a call from his friends anachangamka na kufuka base kuwa-meet.
Wakiwa base wanashika ma-jug kadhaa as they catch up but funny thing ni kuwa hajui kile one of his friends hufanya for a living. Wanamuonanga tu akiwa mafutani (akiwa loaded).
After ku-catch up wanatokanisha and the friend anawachapia anataka kuhire gari for few days kuna biz anafaa kuenda kushughilikia. So wanafika kwa car hire na huyo beshte yao ana-negotiate price and how long atakuwa na gari.
After coming down kwa pay wanakubaliana and the dude pays. Blunder ilitokea when the car owner aliitisha collateral ya kusimamia as security.
Huyo jamaa huwa mafutani analia hata ID hakubeba and this guy offers kusimamia na ID na DL (Driving License) yake.
Msee wa car hire anampea gari na wanakubaliana gari itarifishwa after two days and they part ways na kila mtu anaenda biashara zake.
After five days kijana anaskia knock kwa mlango anachangamka kuenda kufungua. Alipofungua mlango ya keja aliona askari wako fully dressed na mabunduki akachanganyikiwa nini inaendelea.
Akabebwa na CID mpaka headquarters kufanya uchunguzi but unfortunately yeye hata hakuwa na idea what was happening. Hata ilikuwa mara yake ya kwanza kushikwa.
Pale kwa Investigation Room alikuwa amepewa free massage… if you know, you know. Ndio mjamaa alikuja kujua beshte yake alikuwa mwizi and the car was found Tanzania ikiwa imekatakatwa.
Jamaa wangu akafunguliwa mashtaka kufika kortini akakataa mshtaka na unajua ukikataa huwa 14 days Industrial Area Prison. Next hearing alirushwa jela 3 years for a crime he didn’t commit juu tu alipeana his documents to help a friend.
He was released way back in 2014 but life yake ili-change completely ‘cause he was an only child na the mother had spent kila kitu they owned kujaribu ku-appeal but zilichapa wall. They were adviced to let him finish his jail term ju appeals can turn around and jail you for life.
Hii Kenya life can change in a second,” he finishes off.
This is what Kenyans had to say about the chilling thread.
