Mercy Masika is arguably one of the most successful Gospel artistes in Kenya. Her music has taken her beyond Kenyan borders as she has performed outside the country.
But the truth is there were moments in her life that she thought of giving up on church because nothing was going well for her.
At least not until she released her hit song ‘Mwema’ what has opened doors for her both in her music career and financially.
During a recent interview with Play House, Mercy revealed that she felt God had forsaken her. She says;
“I was doing a Masters in Community Development because music was not working. When we shot ‘Mwema’ I was only doing it as a by the way.”
Mercy says her sister thought the song sounded too normal while she already had other songs but her struggles were seemingly endless.
“My sister thought the song sounded too normal. I already had other songs but nothing was working for me.
“We shot the song in 1 hour amazing enough the song that was a joke turned out to be my break through song.”
I suppose you never know when and how your breakthrough will come. She adds that there were moments when she almost gave up on church but she had a strong relationship with God, something that gave her the strength to keep trying.
“There is a time I wanted to give up on the church but somehow my pastor found out. She called me and assured me that God had so much in store for me.
“I did not give up on God because I had seen his goodness before. There were times I had no food to feed my kids and he would send someone with exactly what I needed.”
LESSON: Keep trying no matter how hard things are. Even when the odds are not in your favour, never lose HOPE. Your breakthrough might be close.
