Husband to the late Bomet Governor Dr Joyce Laboso has revealed the reasons behind the family keeping cancer diagnosis a secret until her demise.
Addressing the media at Lee Funeral Home, Dr Edwin Abonyo confirmed public speculations that indeed the late Governor was suffering from cancer.
He revealed that it was Dr. Laboso’s wish to keep her health condition private so that it couldn’t affect her service delivery to the residence of Bomet County.

“She actually suffered for a long time but we kept it under wraps. She did not want it to deter her duty and all the things that she was doing.
“She was very strong and we can only reciprocate that by also being strong for her. I humbly ask that you grant us some space to mourn her, it has barely been a few hours since her demise,” he said.
He went on to urge the rest of the family and loved ones to be strong as they mourn her passig.
“We need to be strong for her, as she was always strong, even during her time of illness,” he disclosed.
Dr. Laboso’s health condition came to the limelight when opposition leader Raila Odinga along with Kenya’s High Commissioner to the UK Manoah Esipisu visited her at a London hospital where she had been admitted on June 5, 2019.
Dr. Laboso passed away aged 59, and her service delivery has been praised by many political leaders, including President Uhuru Kenyatta who described her as an “icon of women leadership in our country” and his Deputy Dr. William Samoei Ruto who said the country had lost “a courageous, hardworking, very progressive woman leader in Kenya.”
