Cracks have started emerging in Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party after billionaire politician Bundotich Kiprop Buzeki threatened to ditch it after its leader Isaac Ruto said the outfit will rally behind Baringo Senator Gideon Moi if he contests the presidency in the upcoming general elections.
These remarks did not augur well with Buzeki, who is also the Secretary-General of CCM. In a recent interview with a local media outlet,he accused Ruto of making decisions without consulting other party organs and vowed to quit if he and other party officials are not involved in the decision-making process.
“I was overwhelmed by enquiries from supporters over the statement. Some said they did not know that I was using Isaac Ruto as my political short cut to reach Gideon Moi yet that has not been the case.
“I am still the SG of the party but if such unilateral statements continue to be made then I will not be a party to that. I will have to consult my supporters and make a decision,” said Buzeki.
While speaking in a function last week, the former Bomet Governor noted that the party will field contestants in all seats except for the presidency and support Gideon Moi.
“We are ready as a party to support you. Our party will field candidates up-to county level but for the top seat, we will support you,” he said.
