Somalia’s Islamist group al Shabaab have this morning conducted daring dawn raid on a United States (US) naval base known as ‘Camp Simba’ situated in Manda Bay, Lamu County.
In a statement released to press, the group says that its fighters “took control of part of the base that is home to hundreds of US & Kenya soldiers”.
Adding that their fighters “inflicted severe casualties on both US and Kenya troops, destroyed US military aircraft and vehicles” during the Sunday morning ambush.

Full statement released by the terror group.
The military base in Lamu county is used by both the United States and Kenyan military personnel.
A suicide car bomb reportedly breached the entry to Camp Simba, and explosion sent plume of dark smoke into the sky, photos show.
The attack underscores the resilience of al Shabaab, which has maintained a campaign of deadly bomb and gun attacks despite being ejected from their bases in Somali capital Mogadishu and other areas years ago.
