Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPD) on Saturday afternoon announced the death of Dr. Nira Patel, who died of COVID-19 complications, in a worrying trend that sees frontline workers hard hit by the pandemic.
This comes hours after the medical fraternity in Kenya mourned the death of Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Head of Renal Unit Dr. Anthony Were who died of covid-19
Dr. Patel was an orthodontics specialist whom KMPDU has described as “a mentor to man.” She had just tested positive for COVID-19 two days ago.
Dr. Were died on Friday night after spending 10 days in ICU at a hospital in Nairobi.
This brings the total number of doctors who have succumbed to the deadly virus in Kenya to 12.
Ministry of Health records show that 2,352 health workers have contracted COVID-19 in the country so far, with now 12 of them paying the ultimate price
