The Cabinet Secretary in charge of Education has this evening received the shocker from the Public Service Commission
Several days ago, Education CS George Magoha sparked public uproar after he was caught on camera mishandling an elderly Education Director during one of his tours in Uasin Gishu county.
This evening, reports have now emerged that the government through the public service Commission (PSC) has replaced CS Magoha on the tasks of handling human resource issues at the Education Ministry with PS Professor Belio Kipsang appointed to take charge of all staff matters.
“The Public Service Commission has withdrawn the powers to manage human resources it had delegated to the Cabinet Secretary of Education Prof. George Magoha with immediate effect,” read a statement from the PSC Communication Director Browne Kutswa in a press release on Friday.
“In his place, the Commission has designated the Principal Secretary of Early Learning and Basic Education, Dr Belio Richard Kipsang, to be in charge of all human resource matters in the ministry,” it added.
The decision by the PSC comes at a time when Kenyans were demanding an apology from the ever serious cabinet secretary, who has maintained his stand despite the pressure.
The CS was at one point quoted saying that he can leave the ministry since he did not apply for the post since Uhuru looked for him.
Magoha might now have a difficult time implementing the COVID-19 containment protocols in schools, since he will need the approval of the PS in order to involve the ministry employees in the whole process.
He will also have no power, either to hire or fire ministry employees.
