Is the popular 1824 Whisky Bar planning a return to business?
City revelers have been left curious as to whether night entertainment joints might soon resume operation following the emergence of a video showing a popular city nightclub getting fumigated.
In the short clip which made rounds across social media platforms, a man fully kitted with COVID-19 protective gear is seen spraying towards tables and seats at the 1824 Whisky Bar along Lang’ata Road.
Last week, the government through the Health Ministry announced that restaurants and other big eating spaces in the country would be reopened but under strict guidelines aimed at maintaining social distancing to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The decision also allowed restaurants to sell alcohol to customers, on condition it is sold with a meal or to customers waiting to be served a meal or during a meal, but the government made it clear that it was not yet time to open pubs and nightclubs.
Speaking in his Tuesday afternoon address to the nation, however, Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe expressed disappointment at how many have misused the new move meant to ensure Kenyans easily gain access to food.
He noted that some Kenyans have only been visiting eateries to get drunk, often ordering bizarre combinations like a sausage accompanied by two by beers.
