A section of Dandora residents are now demanding for the arrest of the Dandora health Center officials who left a pregnant woman deliver outside the hospital.
Mary Atieno, who suffered labor pains, was supposedly prevented from entering the hospital premises forcing her to deliver on the pavement.
The facility’s doctors reportedly sent her away and told her to go deliver at the Pumwani Maternity Hospital instead.
“They told me the baby was not moving and thus needed to head to Mama Lucy. After reaching outside the gate, I felt I could not reach Mama Lucy, so I came back because the baby was almost out. They still chased me with my prenatal book that I should rush to the other facility,” said Atieno.
The incident sparked fury among the residents who demanded that action be taken against the officials.
According to the residents, it was wrong for the pregnant woman to be denied the chance to deliver from the hospital while the government has been working to ensure pregnancy services are given freely.
The Nairobi county government is yet to comment on the issue.
