“It’s not enough.” This was Ezekiel Mutua’s response after Gengetone stars Ethic issued a public apology over their latest controversial song, ‘Tarimbo’.
The ‘Lamba Lolo’ hitmakers apologized on Monday after coming under fire for the song’s lyrical content which Mutua claimed advocates for the rape of women.
In a strongly-worded statement on Twitter, Ethic said they did not intend to objectify women in their songs.
“As Ethic Entertainment, we are truly remorseful for any dolor caused by the lyrics to our single, and for every single person that was triggered to a displeasing memory or emotion by it, receive our sincere apologies. Rest assured that no disrespect was intended,” said Ethic.
However, the hitmakers did not indicate that they would be pulling down the song which was still trending at number 1 on YouTube with over 790,000 views on Wednesday, 5 days after release.
Responding to Ethic’s apology, the ‘moral policeman’, KFCB CEO Mr Mutua, said the hitmakers should take responsibility for their actions.
He implored the rappers to change their behavior and act in a more respectful manner.
“It’s not enough to apologize. People must take responsibility for their actions.The real apology should be change of behavior and a commitment to be responsible!”
