A 15-year-old Nigerian boy’s mission of trying to extort money from his father by kidnapping himself came to a dead end after his plans were thwarted by local police officers.
The young teenager is said to have planned his own kidnap together with his four friends and demanded a ransom of 500, 000 naira from his father. The five allegedly hatched the plan a day after the boy’s father had sold his car to raise money for the general upkeep of his growing family.
The teenager seems to have gotten wind of the exact amount his father received from the sale of the car, a reason that might have influenced them to demand the ransom they were asking for.
The boy and his accomplices were arrested after being tracked down by police officers who were alerted by the distressed father after receiving numerous calls from the ‘fake’ kidnappers who were demanding a ransom.
After being cornered, the teenager confessed that he was the one who hatched the kidnap plan, so as to get money to buy clothes and celebrate his graduation.
I am the one who planned the kidnap and asked my friends to assist me in executing the plan. I wanted my father to give me money to buy new clothes and to celebrate my graduation.
